Teamwork!
You may be wondering how Honey is actually made. Flowers provide the bees with nectar. Once the bees find the best nectar source, the bees will travel to about 50 to 100 flowers each time they leave the hive to fill their honey sacs. The honey sac is like our stomachs. Once the honey sac is filled the bees return to the hive to hand the nectar off to the worker bees. The worker bees deposit the wax cell into the the honeycomb.
Did you know the honeycomb was made by bees as well? The bees have glands on their stomachs
that makes the beewax. The bees then work together to shape the wax into connected hexagons to make the comb. Teamwork is a big part of the bees job.Bees take the role of "Worker Bees" so that the work can get done quickly nad efficiently.
Once the worker bees tranfer the honey into the cells, the bees top each one with a wax cap to seal every full cell. Now the process of making honey is done! The honey is ready to eat - right out of the comb, if you'd like!

Making Honey at The Pumpkin Patch at Yule Forest.com
How Do Bees Make Honey?
Most people love honey, but how do bees make honey? We see them flying from flower to flower, we've seen the little packets of pollen on their legs and we've heard they collect nectar. But how do they really make honey? Starting this fall you can learn everything you'd like to know about Honey at The Pumpkin Patch! We're busy as Bees getting the Bee House ready for our bees for this fall.

Bringing families together and making memories is what The Pumpkin Patch is all about. We are a family owned business with plenty of activities and attractions to entertain all ages in a "family friendly" atmosphere.
There will be more to come about what's new in 2012 on the farm located at Yule Forest Hwy. 155, but we wanted to give you time to make plans for a very special event we have in store for you.
On Saturday, October 13, we are excited to announce that we will have Anne Grant ~ The Village Photographer creating family portraits for you right here on the farm. Anne is a professional photographer with a studio in North Carolina who has been photographing families throughout the Southeast for the last 20 years. Watch the blog for details about this event, plus what's new for you this year.
Anne is looking forward to meeting all of The Pumpkin Patch families."To hear Allen & Susie talk about the visitors at the Pumpkin Patch and Yule Forest Hwy. 155, I know they consider them long-time friends", Anne says. "Any friend of theirs is a friend of mine!" To see more of her portrait work, visit her website @ www.grantphoto.com.
